Hi. Iv tried to correct this months ago but gave up when I culdnt get it right. I can't go on any longer with these high readings. I think iv finally worked out my insulin carb ratio and reading pretty stable throughout day but my problem is getting my basal correct. I currently take levimer 8u at 9am and 10u 9pm but each morn my bs 14+

I have done 3night tests they are all roughly the same. Here is an example

7pm 10.1 30g 4u
10pm 6.1
12mn 6.7
2am 7.3
4am 10.7
6am 11.9
8am 14.8

During the day I take novo rapid 3u to 10g at breakfast 2u to 10g lunch and 1u to 10g dinner. My readings aren't perfect especially between waking and say 3pm but after 3pm they are generally good.

I feel it's because I'm starting the morning high. Can anyone offer some advice. And I apologise as I'm repeating myself from months ago I just can't get my head around it. Thanks guys xx

Re: Help with basal adjustment

Hi Samantha

It looks as if your basal needs adjusting. You need to get this right before you can work out your bolus ratios otherwise you can end up covering insufficient basal with bolus.

The evening one is the obvious problem, but you may well need to do the daytime one as well.

You'll only be able to set the daytime one by doing some fasting during the day. I'm out for the rest of the day but there are plenty here that can explain daytime fasting to set basal rate.

I would suggest you only adjust one at a time to see how you go. If you notice you are actually creeping up overnight - I would start by adjusting 10% (8u =0.8 rounded to 1u) so you would give 9u tonight. wait three days. see what happens, PM me if you need help.

The early morning high's could be down to DP Samantha: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/dawn-effect/AN01213

Try increasing your night-time dose by one unit to see if this lowers your morning bg levels, obviously it means you testing for a few more nights but it's worth it to get the basal dose right.
