My mum is Type 1 and is insulin dependent, recently her levels are all over the place and although I try to manage her diabetes myself by phone I am going away for 2 weeks soon and won't be available to help her. I don't believe she is capable of managing this on her own and wondered if anyone has any advice as to where I can go to get help, I really want somebody who is trained to visit her daily to make sure her levels are ok and she is taking the correct doses etc - Any help would be very much appreciated.

That would be down to her GP practice to send out a district/community nurse. Unless you want to pay for a private nurse to visit her.

Hi, I tried that but they said that even though her memory was bad and her levels were bad and they understood she would be at risk because she is not housebound they would not help.

Not sure if they can help @Sharon67 but have you thought about contacting your local Social Services, depending on your mam's inability to manage on her own they may be able to help.

I don't think she needs Social Services as she is more than capable of looking after herself, its just that I would feel better knowing somebody was checking on her levels and correcting them if need be - I guess I am going to end up paying for it but it seems a mine field of care at home companies and I have no idea who to approach - does anybody know of any in the Hastings area that are tried and tested as it were?
