I'm really not sure with this one but has anyone suffered with loose teeth ? My teeth have been pretty healthy for years and although I'm relatively new to diabetes ( type 2 for 4 years now ) they've all of a sudden gone loose. Is it diabetes related ??? Have never suffered with gum disease but have noticed my gums are receding too. I have booked with a dentist but just thought I'd rule out diabetes if that's the case. It's complicated having it isn't !!!!

Hi I have teeth and gum problems same as you, it may be down to diabetes, type of diet, smoking or the dentist could say dental hygeine, and a factor could be heredity.too. I was refered to Guys hospital a couple of years ago for about a year,
Good luck at your appointment and I hope it goes well.

Take care RRB

I have read that receding gums and gingivitis (sp?) is very common in diabetics, and a sure sign that blood sugar has been too high for a while.

When you get control of your blood glucose, you may find that your teeth settle.

Thank you guys !!! Some valid points there from you both .... Maybe it's hereditary as my Dad has false teeth ( oh dear god !!! ). Although my diabetes is under control and has been for almost all of my time diagnosed it's still a learning curb regarding BS levels. Gets me depressed

That's great that BS is under control and as you have had diabetes for a shortest time it could be hereditary as both my parents had Pyorrhea ( old fashioned name for gum disease) my mum didn't smoke, my dad smoked a pipe and neither had diabetes ! Also certain medications can cause gum and teeth problems, and conditions such as Arthritis and Osteoporosis( I have the latter).
Try not to worry too much, it may not be as bad as you think. Please let us know how you get on
