I need some help. I was diagnosed in January with HBA1c of 148mmol. I started metformin & LCHF. In September HBA1c was down to 42mmol and I lost about 3 stones! I was over the moon and thought I had found a way to control it for life. February 2017 HBA1C was 49mmol. I wasn't too worried. Since then though I have lost control. Last HBa1C in December 2017 was 70mmol. The only way to keep my BS anywhere near normal is to not eat!
My morning readings are usually around 12mmol. If I fast all day they drop to around 9 by 3pm. Once I have dinner ( usually a salad and tuna) they go to 13 or sometimes more. I know I shouldn't have -but I had a crumpet with butter at the weekend and BS was 22mmool!! I dread to think how high it would go if I had a piece of cake. The doctor is worse than useless just increased metformin by 1 extra tablet. So now taking 3 a day.
Sometimes I think I could go out for afternoon tea and then go straight to A&E, I might get something resolved quicker.
I am at a loss at what else to do?
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome,

Between your diagnosis with an HbA1c of 148, and your next HbA1c of 42, you seemed to have found a good eating plan. Have you strayed from that plan at all (other than an odd treat)? Did you relax and get a bit complacent? Is there any reason you can't go back to that plan? Do you keep a food diary including portion sizes and all ingredients? A food diary is an excellent idea, especially if you record your before and after levels alongside the food and look for patterns - increased portion sizes? Increased carbs? Analysing you current meals may help you find some of the reasons for your increased levels.

I was doing (and still am!) LCHF. I did stray off it a bit. But for the last 8 months I have been really strict. I do keep a food diary and a record of what my readings are after each food. Whatever I seem to eat I have a big increase in BS. I do 20 hour fast most days that brings it down to about 8 but soon goes back once I eat.

I asked the doctor that very question. He said "you will always be type 2 they will not change it. would just be insulin dependant type 2"

Hi. Don’t “ask” for the tests, insist on them. I would definitely also find another doctor who is more open minded and better informed about diabetes. This is really important. Best wishes, Leeanne

Have you ever heard a more ridiculous response from a so called Doctor! It makes my blood boil, they may have made a mistake over the initial diagnosis (understandable sometimes) and they cannot change what's on the computer? I would be making one hell of a complaint right now. It matters not whether you would go onto insulin anyway or not, YOU would like them to do their flipping job and if they have misdiagnosed you, to put the matter right.
