At what stage can you demand an insulin pump. I am type 2, insuline and drug dependent and have difficulties maintaining my blood sugar levels. I read with interest the pumps are very effective. My consultant rejects my request every time I see him which is annually at the hospital. Is it a post code lottery or what does one have to do to get a pump . I have been insulin dependent, take metformin and glymapride plus statins for 9 years now.

It's hard to get a pump because it costs the PCT a lot of money. If you can self fund it, it'll be easier. But if not you could try contacting your PCT and trying to make a case for them letting you have it. Unfortunately I imagine it'll be harder for you because they have some ridiculous ides about what type 2s actually need.
Good luck :-)
