Hello and welcome to the forum.
The first thing I would like to say is that you have found a great place to get help, advice and support.
Next- the best thing you can do now is to get a meter. A meter is the tool that will help you work out what effect different foods have on your levels so you can make decisions about what you should and should not eat.
I was diagnosed with type 2 about 3 and a half years ago. What has worked for me is to dramatically reduce my carb intake. I currently eat less than 20 grams of carbs a day.
However many here have been able to get their bloods into the normal range with a much higher carb intake than this.
Our bodies are very complex and you need to find a way of eating that works for you overall. For me- I keep to foods that have basically no carbs- eggs, fish, meat, cheese (particularly hard cheese), cream. I find it easier because there is much less need for weighing and measuring. Though I do plan to start that again as I want to lose some of the weight I have put on in the last year.
For me I find that the fewer carbs I intake the less I crave. I would not have that that would be the case when I started. I describe myself as a carboholic and so this approach works for me. It is not an approach that everyone takes. You will need to find what works for you overall.
Read around the forum and ask questions, seek advice. People here are very willing to help.
Welcome and good luck.
