i was on anti biotics for a week for the same toe as my dr said it was infected and this was 2wks ago it seems they didnt help and it hasnt gone away he said it wasnt ingrowing (which is what i thought as i have had them before!)

i had gout just before xmas and that cleared u fine after tablets! i did wonder if the 2 were conected but i cant really see how! :?
the gout came about after i dropped a very hevy glass bottle on my foot whilest in the shower and in turn i cracked the bl**dy bone in my foot!!

sorry if i have woffled and i hope this makes sence anyone got any ideas or anything i would be greatful as drs are closed now till tues and my usual dr is on hol then too and not keen on seeing any of the others! i cant goto a&e (plus would feel stupid just for an infected toe!)

thanks for reading

I'd go to A&E and get it checked if I were you. If it is infected it should be looked at.

i dont know my BG number as i have no way of testing myself (should i be testing??) :? i gant get to a&e :(
1 of my family said to cut down the nail and then pull it out but i know i cant (couse as diabetics we arnt to do anything like that) plus i couldnt do it myself anyway!!! (not good with pain!

You should get it looked at. The surgeries are all shut now till Tuesday, and your foot could get a lot worse in that time. I hope you get some relief soon.

Meanwhile, if you have any Savlon or Dettol liquid, pour a capful into a bowl of warm water and soak your foot for half an hour. If you can bear to rub the toe gently it will help get the antiseptic in to the wound. Dry it thoroughly and dress with a plaster it to keep it clean.

But that's just a stop-gap. You must get medical help as soon as possible. Please don't leave it to fester, it really isn't worth it!

thank you all for relying xxx
i soaked it earlyer and put some germalean on it and then dressed it with a small part of bandage and micra porous tape!

i also forgot to mention it that it keeps going like a blue colour and cold! (but i do suffer with raynards syndrome) so i put the coldness and colour down to that!

when i say blue colour i mean the rest of the toe exept the bit thats red and sore!

Please call NHS direct. Tell them you are diabetic and that you have taken antibiotics in the past but your toe is still infected
As a diabetic you have to be extra careful, a septic toe can quickly turn into wide spread infection and gangrene.
