Hello Stuart
Welcome to the forum! I was diagnosed T2 at the end of March this year and just like you I was panicked and absolutely scared out of my wits....but thanks to this forum it did not take long to get myself back on track.
My Hbac1 at diagnosis was 10.7 and I have managed to get it down to 6.6 which I am very happy with. I do low carb but not near as low as some on the forum but I am doing ok. I have lost 9kgs and feel fitter and healthier than I have ever felt in my life. I do NOT believe I have shortened my life span in fact I feel I have added years to it. If I did not get the diagnosis I probably would be still consuming large amounts of yucky carbs and doing myself more damage.
At the start of this I did feel it was the end of the world but really it is not Stuart. I do know how you are feeling. I have a great hubby and 3 terrific kids and like you only 43 when diagnosed.
Look around the forum and ask questions, there are many wonderful, helpful people here to help you. Life does go on and it feels great.
Warm regards
Sandra
