I left hospital after a major trauma and am on mixtard 30, until this I was on glucophage but as the trauma involves jmy kidney I cannot use metformin anymore. While in hospital my sugars were constantly high ( mostly in the 20s and I was given Actrapid in addition to Mixtard (it made no difference. Since coming home I have increased my dose following the instructions given and that makes no difference. I'm desperate and depressed, I 3was previously in control of my diabetes and now nothing I do makes any difference. I have been waiting for a visit from a diabetic liason nurse since I got home who is supposed to bring me a pump and I have contacted the diabetic advice nurse who said she would leave a message for liason to contact me but still no show.
Can anyone suggest ANYTHING apart from moving. Also dont tell me what to eat or not eat as I have been diabetic over 10 yrs. Eeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkk

Hi, I am sorry you are having such a rough time.
Tell what were your readings before this major trauma (as you describe it) that involves your kidneys?
Also do you have any dietary restrictions as a result, for example do you have to be salt free or limit the amount of protein that you are taking, etc?
Normally when sugars are so high a few days of no carbs bring them down pretty fast and then continue on very low carb to maintain, but this might not be suitable for you due to kidney problems?

I note that you ask not to tell you what to eat as you have been diabetic for 10 years, it is good that you are confident in handling your condition, but we live and learn something new all the time, so maybe we should all keep an open mind?

I hope you get sorted and start to feel better soon.

Karen
