Hi
I am a teacher and we have been offered the Hep B vaccine at school to protect us from Hep B. They are arranging for someone to come in and do all the staff, but I just wondered if it is safe for me to have this injection? I am type 2 on meds and have no reactions to other vaccines (usually have the flu jab each year) but can't find anything online that says it is ok or not.

Anyone else had the jab?

Re: Hep B Vaccine

Hi
Ihad the hep B injection as i was a dental nurse and it never caused me a problem, also have you had the flu jab as you are entitled to that as well.
Good luck.

Re: Hep B Vaccine

Thanks Tracey

I always have my flu jab ( had asthma for a long time before the diabetes) and last year was given the pneumonia jab too.

I shall go ahead and have the hep b now

Re: Hep B Vaccine

Vaccines Are Safe. There is no conspiracy.

Also, you can draw no conclusions whatsoever about the safety of the vaccine based on individual outcome (which is why we do expensive clinical trials)

Re: Hep B Vaccine

Firstly, the OP asked about safety of the vaccine. Further, the fact that we lack evidence for the effectiveness of a different vaccine in a different demographic doesn't really help the OP, and I never claimed that vaccines are always effective.

I'm sorry, but there is no way you or ANYONE else can guarantee that EVERY vaccine is safe. To even imagine that you can is unbelievably arrogant.

Re: Hep B Vaccine

Can't guarantee that Hep B vaccine is safe for ever person, but you can discuss your situation with the person giving the vaccine. In general, vaccines are safer for a population as a whole than that population as a whole getting the disease. Hep B is actually a very infectious virus - far easier to catch from dried (or wet) blood entering your body through a scratch or mucus membrane than HIV.

Re: Hep B Vaccine

Thank you - am happy to have the vaccine as obviously don't want Hep! Just wasn't sure if I needed to be aware of any side effects that might be triggered by the diabetes! (As I have recently had a steroid injection in my shoulder and the notes stated specifically that it could increase my sugar levels!)

Thank you for all your responses - we are due to have them en masse next week!
