My non-diabetic wife just came over a bit shaky after lots of work after smallish breakfast. Probably low blood sugar. She had a chocolate hobnob to recover. *****! Curse her! Love her really.

 I feel like that about my husband when he comes home from work and I find empty crisp packets and chunky kitkat wrappers in his lunch box  . Suppose I should be grateful that at least he doesn't eat them in front of me.....he might get rid of the evidence BEFORE he comes home, though!

it is difficult seeing other people eating things I now choose not to eat...but I would like to ask something.....does anyone find it hard to cook when cooking for more than just yourself. If you are weighing portions etc....how do you manage?

We are a family of 7 .. me, hubby and 5 children. Trying to avoid the 'bad stuff' can be so very hard and cooking is difficult, especially when it is a pasta dish etc. I am actually not eating the same as everyone else at the moment. I eat a plate of veggies when everyone else has their main meal and it doesn't bother me too much to be honest. The real problem is when they have sandwiches, rolls, wraps .. that kind of stuff and I REALLY struggle with that!

I dont weigh things out

I or my wife cook a normal meal and when it comes to serving the meal I just take portions that I know I can eat safely without going over my target upper limit

If you are not a T1 I dont see why anyone would want to weigh food out every day. Just adjust the portion size of the carbs you eat till your meter tells you that is OK and then just serve yourself that size portion in every time.....Job done

Thanks for the advice. I have just started trying to be healthy and I know myself.. I need to get a bit obsessed by it to stick to it - at least until the initial struggle is over. I am looking forward until it gets better.... poor BF is trying to cook me dinner and I am there measuring everything

I've just explained to my fitness obsessed, six small meals a day, body fat reducing sister that she doesn't have a patch on me when it comes to sussing out how to control Type 1.5 Diabetes with testing, adjusting two types of insulin, food eaten and exercise done per day!

And she looked especially perplexed when I explained why moderate to high ketones not necessarily good for a Diabetic!

JOY
