Well here is an update after 2.5 weeks since diagnosis!
My random blood test (which started all this off) was 16 and may fasting was 10, so pretty high.
The doctor said that if I was seen to make an effort to lose weight before seeing the DN 10 days later, then she MIGHT not put me on Metformin and allow me to try diet control.
So, eating stuff as per my original thread, I lost 4kgs in those 10 days. I went to see the DN who was lovely and she gave me a test machine and a load of strips. (This was last Friday).
Anyhow, my reading while there was 9.6 (just after breakfast), after evening meal it was 10.6. However, since then and for the last 5 days, its been under 7 whenever I have tested (as soon as I get up and 2 hours after each meal) .
So my little book looks good, showing a decline from 10.6 to now 5.3 before and after meals, with the odd 6.3 sometimes in the mix.
I am very pleased with such fast improvements.
For the record, I am eating very low carb, although for research purposes I have eaten a few potatoes at some meals and porridge for breakfast. Also bought some seeded homemade bread-seems to make little/no difference.
Usually have hard boiled eggs and a piece of bacon or a sausage for breakfast (cold while driving to work), a large salad with tuna/chicken/ham for lunch and some sort of meat with loads of veg for dinner. No puddings/chocolate/sweets etc at all.
Not sure how much I have lost in the 5/ 6 days since seeing the nurse as I only use the surgery scales for consistency. I have another appt on the 4th Sept so will know more then.
So that's the update. Fell fairly pleased that my reading are in "normalish" parameters now, and consistently so.
Thank you all so much for the help, you have all been great and I will keep you updated as to what's what.
