I do not have diabetes
Hi all, I'm new here. Trying to help my T2 partner who has finally realised that after years of ignoring the fact that he has diabetes, and just losing 2 toes and part of his foot, that it's finally time to change his ways and to start taking his meds properly and look into his diet to get his blood sugars under control I'm here instead of him, because I do the majority of the cooking and have taken it upon myself to control his meds (otherwise he wouldn't take them at all)

Hello

If you are doing the cooking then have a look at low carb recipes. But do take care if he is on insulin or insulin-lowering meds as the dose may need adjusting if his carb intake goes down.
If he consents can you talk to his team and get advice (if they know about low carb, some don't yet).

Simple swaps I like are
90 second bread, I add a teaspoon of cream cheese to cut the eggy taste
cauliflower rice even if just half and half with rice at first
protein for breakfast instead of cereals

and a couple of squares of 85% dark chocolate instead of the bar of milk chocolate I used to eat.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely take a look at low carb (probably wouldn't hurt me either tbh )
His consent is not a problem. He consents fully to me being part of everything. He knows that he's more likely to get to where he needs to be with me onboard.

Your partner is lucky to have you in his corner and I hope so much this is where the damage to his body due to diabetes stops. Why don’t you take a look at the “what have you eaten today (low carb)” thread for ideas on food. Best wishes.
