@teddybear74 - After this, I would encourage you to ask your Doc for a means of testing for ketones. If you are on insulin and could be taking steroids for asthma, I would consider you need a meands of testing ketones on-hand.

Very high blood glucoes, with non-nutitional ketones can be very bad news, and not to be gambled on
 
Well I’m home safe and sound after a load of tests and more results to come skmething called a c peptide test? My hba1c is 78 so that is down but still not low enough at least I know I will never have steroids again. Hospital said they are surprised I don’t have a sick day plan
 
Glad to hear you have had the c peptide test. Steroids and diabetes control don’t agree with each other at all!!! Let’s hope you’ll have some answers regarding the state of your health and future healthcare soon!

hi all

no results for c peptide test yet even though the bloods was done at hospital on Monday should I be concerned. I have made appointment with dr for Tuesday morning to make sure everything is ok as im still running a bit high first thing in the morning I was 12 this morning even though im still taking the meds I have been on for a while im still tired aand still needing to drink a fair bit. im also thinking of starting a low carb diet to see if that helps but been advised to check with dr first as im on a very small dose of insulin 8 units so any advice on that would be helpful x
 
My sick day plan is quite simple - eat my normal low carb food if I feel like eating - if I don't feel like eating then I don't eat.

My reason for this is simple - at diagnosis is was told by my DN that I must always eat carbs each no matter how ill I felt. Then I got a really horrendous attack of norovirus, phoned the DN and said I couldn't eat. She told me to force some dry toast down. So I forced myself to eat dry toast between vomiting and urgent trips to the loo and I think eating extended my illness by at least a week because it gave the bug something to live on. The non diabetics around me stopped eating while they had it and it only lasted for 2-3 days whereas I had it for nearly two weeks.
