I just joined this forum yesterday and didnt introduce myself.
I have been type 2 since dec 2008 and to be honest have been in denial since then. I use insulin and metformin. I still eat a lot of carbs as well as chocolate and biscuits. My bgs vary from 3.5 to 12 as you can imagine. Its only since finding this site yesterday that I realised I really have to take stock of my life, start eating better, and control my diabetes. Reading through the different threads has really helped me. Sorry if I post what seem like stupid questions but I am still learning! Anyway, I look forward to reading everyones very interesting threads.

Hi Paula.
Welcome to the Forum. Although you are not newly diagnosed some of the information we ususally post may be of help to you gaining better control and getting back on track. Have a read:

Thanks for that. Luckily i was given a tester and strips straight away. I have them on prescription. I was told to test before meals and 2hrs after and also that bs after meals should be 4-7 but dont usually achieve this. I was told to eat lots of carbs but after reading things on this forum i have realised otherwise. I am not keen on the non-carb diet some people on here follow as I love my carbs!! But reducing them seems to have an advantage. I now test 4 times a day. My last blood test at the hosp was 6.9 so I seem to be doing something right. However, I have my next appt in a few weeks and I know I've been v naughty so am not looking forward to it!!

Well done so far ! For the record as a T2 the post meal readings shouldn't go above 8.5 mmol/l but many of us, me included prefer the levels to be lower......in my case no more than about 7 mmol/l.
I reduce carb + low GI/GL and as a way forward I think it has to be a sensible option. However, there are those that are what we call, 'ultra low carbers' who prefer a much lower level. It is very difficult to have a NO carb diet in my opinion.

Let us know how you get on.....any other questions, the Forum is your Lobster

hya paula and a warm welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum Paula. Don't be afraid to ask questions even if you think they are stupid because they won't be stupid - you just need to know something and out there someone will know the answer and will be pleased to help you.
