...In my head I was hearing Doctor Nick from the Simpsons....

Newly diagnosed as of Thursday - likely to be Type 2, but it's too early to tell really, apparently....my BG was 17.9 when tested on Thurs

I had a feeling this would happen to be honest, I'm badly overweight, 34 and I used to drink alot. Well, when the fatigue, dry mouth, thirst and frequent toilet breaks kicked in, I sorta guessed.....but they way I look at it - this is probably the kick up the backside I needed to force me to get my life in order.

I have no option now, but to lose weight and get healthy and that can only be a good thing.

I'm on Metformin 850mg, twice a day and I've also opted for a lowish carb diet thus far, it seems to make sense. My GP sort of advised I do that this weekend. He didn't outright say I should and advocated 'lots of fruits, but stay away from starchies, biscuits, cakes etc', but the implication was there. 24 hours of doing that and I feel quite good - all the symptoms literally went away!

So, found this forum and hope to learn a whole lot about this new thing in my life and make some new chums.

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave
Any questions? just ask someone will be along to answer.

Hi Dave, what you have written sounds exactly like me in january. I have had the kick up the **** and went on a low carb diet and have lost 3 and a half stone, got my BS levels down from 18. I have learnt a lot on here and there is some great advice.
Welcome
p.s. how are you finding the metformin?

Thanks for the welcomes guys.

Low carb is already paying dividends - my blood sugar, according to my shiny new Blood Glucose monitor was down to 6.9mmol today.

Metformin.... :? More trips to the toilet that I'd like.....

hya dave and welcome to the forum

Yeah the metformin gets you like that. it doesn't last forever and my stomach has stopped acting like a washing machine now. I discovered on here that it's nickname is metfartin
Nice Bs levels...well done!

Useful doctor! They DO exist but are rather diluted.

These guys are all good

you may find some surprises among fruit, some of them are little bags of sugar water, others especially berries are quite doable (I'm pining for strawberries at the moment, I discipline myself to wait until the local crop is in)

Best way to modify your diet

looks like already you've started the way you mean to go on!
