I have a 13 year old diabetic . Does anyone know if schools are suppose to check hypo boxes ? The reason I ask is my daughters diabetic nurse visited the school today and the senco complained that a few items in her box were out of date . I hadn't been made aware that they were out of date and was quite embarrassed that I hadn't thought to check box. My daughter has her own hypo kit on her everyday and the hypo box is left at school for emergencies . I had a rather blunt email from the diabetic team after telling me that they were rather concerned about this . Of course I take some responsibility for this as should of thought more about it but am also wondering why school don't have an appointed person to double check ? However it appeared school were aware things were out of date and maybe trying to cover there own backs
Does anyone know the protocol on this ???
Also what do you put in your school hypo boxes I usually put in hypo gel spare blood strips pen needles glucose tablets and cereal bars but was questioned as to why there wasn't a spare insulin pen or blood checker . We have spares at home but don't have extra to be leaving at school .
