I was diagnosed Type 2 in November 07. I have read a lot of posts on here and can so relate to many. It really is life changing. I thought i was doing quite well lowering my HB from in the 12's to 6.9 however my doctor wants me to take more pills which i really don't want too. Common sense tells me that long term they will do good but i hate having to take so many pills ie. rampipril, simvastatin, asprin. I took my first metformin pill yesterday and boy did i feel poorly last night! I did not take todays and spoke to Dr who said it sounded dreadful and don't take them again. Is now going to try a slow release form of the same. Does anyone know if this has less side effects? I have lost nearly 2 stone since diagonosis and in my head was pleased with how i had adapted. I really felt that 6.9 for me was good and was shocked when she said about going on metformin! I asked if i could have more time to lose weight and excerise more to see if i can get any lower but she thought i should go on the pills. I am still overweight for my height but eat a healthy diet and no sugar apart from natural sugars in fruit etc. I really don't cheat despite having a daughter who works in Hotel Chocolat!
Sorry i really am not a moaning minnie but am just having a feel sorry for myself day!
Hello to everyone and keep smiling

hya and welcome bumble, sorry youre feeling bad (we all get these off days) metformin can give u nasty side effects and the slow release is usually better , it usually does pass after a while and can be helped if u take the tablet in the middle of a meal, whatever questions u have just ask and someone will always answer u, i know what u mean about the tablets i have just started some more too and im sure if i was shaken i would rattle :D

Hi Totsy,
thanks for that, it is reassuring to know that other people feel the same. We will have to do a version of shake rattle and roll.

There are two ways to approach diabetes, one is to wait and see. The other is to be proactive with medication at first, which it seems is your doctor's approach.

You have already made an excellent start, the meds will hopefully get your BG down even faster and make control through diet and exercise that much easier.

Once you get that nailed you may well be able to reduce or stop the meds, you could think of them as a temporary solution, like a spare wheel until you get the puncture fixed
