Hi everyone.

My name is Frank. I was born in China and came to New Zealand when I was four. Most of my working life has been in journalism, with a few years in communications/PR. I really like writing. I was diagnosed diabetic around 10 years ago. At first I controlled it with diet and exercise, but after about five years this stopping keeping my blood sugars under control. Within a fairly short time I was maxed out on Metformin and Gliclazide, but I was also having significant side effects. I went onto insulin around two years ago and things have been better since then.

Welcome. I am sure you will get more replies after daybreak in the UK.

Welcome to the forum Frankie.

Thanks Squire Fulwood
You're the first to welcome me.
Love the nose, by the way.
My HbA1c readings this year have been between 37 and 42, with the latest on14/10/2014 being 38. (My diabetes nurse reckons they are too low). BMI is 23.3.

Thanks Squire Fulwood

Not much wrong with those HbA1c levels Frankie, I'm guessing the DN doesn't like them for risk of hypos, but you can't make that conclusion based on long term averages.

Yes, she mentions hypos frequently.

Yes, HCPs seem a bit obsessed with hypos I guess as some users just don't control them selves properly. I went thru a similar process to you i.e. max Met, then Glic then Sitagliptin and now insulin. My DN was always asking about hypos even though my HBa1C was over 6% and I never had low meter sugar.

Hi Daibell
We do sound quote similar. Diagnosed 2004, I am 67, probably type 1.5, age 67. I also have low carb diet and with only low GI.
