Hello all, i am not technohobic but my god theres a forum for anything isnt there, this is the most inforamtive one i have come by, mainly as i normaly surf the car and boating forums, my interests.
Well my name is wayne, i live in manchester, and i am 37 and have T1 diabetes for near 17 years now, my thats gone quick, i remeber when i was first told i had diabetes, i was one of them ` a few months longer i wouldnt be here today` patience, thanks to my nan who sent me tot he docs they managed to sav eme in time, back then i played rugby for a good team, also boxed and weight trained, so before the diabetes i was fairly fit untill the weight dropped of me, i went from just under 12 stone to under 9 in about 3 months.
Well back then i wasnt in the best relationship, which led me to drink, i know not good with diabetes, i got in control quickley with the T1, injections at 1 a day at first, didnt work as i was so busy it was hard to get the routine, went to 3 a day nova rapid, then a few months after 4 a day with novarapid and lantus in the morning, have been for years now and its not the best of control but i am still trying, the check up was 8.2 :|
The thing thats got me on here and looking around after 17 years of T1 is that in the last 2 years i have had laser treatment 3 times, 2 on the left eye and 1 on the right, but that was for the macula, i have just got in for Proliferative Retinopaty laser treatment, i ahve been getting my check ups done and as said been treated twice, but not for the retina, this came on quickley as the last test was fine, but as my central vision is not the best. I decided to go for some glasses to help me see my delivery notes as i am a delivery driver for a living and have been for over 16 years.
While i was in the opticians waitng for my presription the doc came over and asked if i was under any hopsital for treatment, and if i had any appoitments soon, Yes i said, why? Oh i am just going to send a letter to your docs to see if they can get you seen sooner. Strange i thought, why would he do this.
Now i know, he cant say anythimng to me about it retinopathy directly, but i guess he had seen the problem whilst testing my eyes, so thanks to him he mite of saved my sight a bit more.
I went for a consultation after the screening 2 weeks ago and the consultant confirmed to me that i have Proliferative Retinopaty and i need laser treatment doing asap, already he got me in for the 25th oct, just 3 weeks time.
When i was told the outcome after laser i was very scared, and upset with myself, firstly of possibly loosing my driving licence, more than likley the consultant says, but then it was after reading up on it the site i could loose in the future, i am coming around to it now though.
The worst bit for me now is what my vision will be like after the treatment, i have been told i will loose night vision, but the rest will depend on how it goes when i go for the check up at christmas, which will be about 8 weeks after the work has been done.
My sight is not the best now for reading etc but if if i loose some of my field of vision then i dont think i will be able to drive again.
I guess i should of looked after myself better way back when.
For those new with any diabetes, please take care of yourself.
