I have never used a meter i was advised by a locum doctor that she did`nt think it was needed i regulary attend my GP for bloods and they have generally been fine i have recently been offered a meter from Accu-Chek but i`m not sure how to collect it,the pharmacies i contacted over here (N.Ireland) advise me that i have to order it directly from the supplier!!! can anyone point me in the right direction

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I have no idea how you go about collecting the meter from Accu Chek - when they made you the offer did they tell you how to get it?

I feel I must warn you that meters are relatively cheap, and you only need one. The test strips that you also need are not at all cheap in many cases, and you need thousands of them. Therefore it is crucial to check out the full cost of test strips before buying a meter. Test strips cost anywhere between around £8 for 50 up to £30 for 50, so please be careful.

The most popular meters for self funding T2's on this forum are the Codefree and the Tee2 because the strips are much cheaper than other meters, and you need a lot of strips. You can't buy them in pharmacies.

Try here for the Codefree meter

and here for the extra strips

There are discount codes if you buy in bulk.
5 packs 264086
10 packs 975833

The Tee2 is here and the meter is free.

Don’t forget to check the box that you have diabetes so you can buy VAT free. (for either meter)
