Hi,i have registered today on behalf of my husband and just wondered if anyone could help me please?
My husband is 48 yrs old and has had type 2 diabetes for about 15 yrs now.At the moment he is on
Metformin-6 a day
Gliclazide-4 a day
Indapamide-1 a day
Felodipine-1 a day
Pioglitazone hydrochloride (actos) 3 a day.
He has had loads of laser treatment on his eyes and sadly last november he lost his HGV driving licence through diabetes.(He failed the field test at the opticians). The eye specialist at the hospital cancelled 3 appointments for laser so by the time he went for his eye test his right eye was quite bad.He has since had some more laser and has been told by DVLA at swansea that he can apply for another field test for his licence. He has an appointment with the diabetic doctor at the hospital clinic on the 28th april. His sugar levels are quite good at the moment but he's been worrying about having to go onto insulin as then he will have no chance of having his HGV licence back at all.
His mum,dad and brother are also diabetic and his brother is also a HGV driver. His brother has just told him that his dr rang him this morning and said that there is a new injection that he will be having that costs £90 a month but means that he can keep his hgv licence whereas normally with the old insulin he would be taken off hgv's automatically.
After the long introduction,my question is,does anyone else know or have they heard about this injection? i myself am a bit suspicious about it as my brother in law has got an appointment at the hospital too,so surely if he's under the care of the hospital now then his dr wouldn't ring him to offer him it would he?
Sorry to be such a pain posting such a long post.
I would be very grateful for any help.
Thank you
Angela.

Hi,
Sorry, I have not heard of this either...and I am also a little suspicious, but I don't really know the facts. I guess the insulin is linked with hypos, and so having one, means you are more likely to suffer the other. Not sure what the £90 could be. Could it just be long acting insulin?
Just wanted to wish you luck, and hope someone can be more help! Interesting though.
