Welcome to the forum.

It is quite possible that you have been diabetic for quite a while without knowing it. I was diagnosed just 4 months ago and then only on a blood test when I told my GP that there was a considerable incidence of diabetes on my mother's side. Although the levels were only just coming over 7 on 2 tests out of 3, my GP reassured me by telling me that diabetes had been caught very early and that was too my advantage. A recent trip to an opthalmologist who specialises in diabetic eye problems saw my eyes getting a thorough going over and he then told me that he could see from my eyes that I have been diabetic for at least 5 years (as well as having glaucoma).

A good question here is: how many people have diabetes without knowing about it, and never will until symptoms start to rear their ugly heads?
