Hi all, I am new here came across the site whist surfing (as you do). Wish I had known about this site earlier, especially when I was diagnosed 18yrs ago. I am treated with Novo rapid and Lantus and have been for about 6yrs now. My control went out the window about 12mths ago after an unrelated episode of illness, any way I am trying really hard to get back on track. It all seems a bit hit and miss right now, I am having more hypos than ever before. My diabetic nurse is adjusting my dosage on a weekly basis, but boy it feels like I will never get it right :? I am off to Turkey next week and to be honest I am a bit apprehensive ( my partner is even more worried than me) I am wondering how the heat is going to affect my BS? Any one out there know?

If you are like me and eat much less when it's hot, you'll need to test frequently and adjust your insulin.

Heat and particularly walking( siteseeing) in the heat. and swimming make my levels drop very rapidly, though I have read of people who find the opposite.
You obviously need to keep a close check and if necessary lower your insulin before going out, keep some dextrose or small containers of fruit juice/sugary drink with you.
If abolutely necessary do what I did a couple of weeks ago; follow up the dextrose with an icecream sundae, without any need to bolus. :D (it worked too I but had got down to the 2s and I did another couple of hours activity afterwards)
