Hi All, I am new here but not to being diabetic. Have been type 1 for almost 30 years, diagnosed age 7, the days of sterlising syringes and practicing injections on oranges

I am by no means a perfect diabetic but I do try... need to try harder tho.
I joined today as I had bad news last week, had my eye screening appt a month ago and then got a hospital letter without a letter from the eye screening people advising me I was being referred so this was a big shock to me as I had not had any previous problems.

I saw the eye hospital on Friday and the Dr ummed and ahhed and said I have proliferative retinopathy in both eyes (worse in my right) - I had laser surgery within the hour.... and am due to have more in 6 weeks and another lot 6 weeks on...

I had no time to take it in, I did my share of crying outside the room and then had the surgery, grateful that such an option was there but numb that things were that bad without any symptoms.

I would welcome any advice regards this condition and also anyones story of their fight with retinopathy. Looks like it has been advanced by a rapid increase in my HBA1C, is so weird that rapid improvements can cause deterioration

Looks like a great place to learn about how we all manage with our diabetes...

Hi Ade,
I'm a T2 so can't help with your questions, but welcome onboard anyway. :D :D
