I was wondering if anybody could help. Tested at work at 5pm and the reading said HI :o ( i@M positive I took my 8 unitd for lunch) Checked when I got home it still said HI. I decided to take 5 units of insulin (I put the input into my ACCU-CHEK machine and didn't get any correction dose) so I took 5 units at 7.15pm tested at 7.45pm and it still said HI. *.30pm still areding of HI, feeling ******, sicky very tired, tested for ketones and it came up light pink 0.5 so its ok. Had some paella and a muller low fat yogurt, my ACCU-CHEK said to take 4 units!!!!!!!! even with a HI reading, so I took 6, but just tested and it is still HI. I'm also very thirsty and wondering if i should take more, but I have to be careful as I am insulin sensitive. My daughter is a sleep in bed and was worried about me but played it down. Can anyone suggest anything please? Thank you RRB

Is your insulin ok? Has it been too hot?
Can you double check your reading with a spare meter?
Hope you get sorted.
Angie

Thanks angie,
I have just checked on a freestyle mini meter( its the one I took into work today) and it still says HI. I'm drinking iced water at the mo. RRB

Hope things are back to normal today RRB! :)

First thing I would have done is change the insulin cartridge and check the accuracy of the meter by using the control solution that came with the meter.

Thanks noblehead managed to get the BS down to 17.0 this morning, took my insulin, ( been very busy with my dad in hospital with pneumonia, but he's better now) noticed the thirst again, checked when I got home, bs of 30.3  I said to my daughter somethings not working, i'm going to look at the cartridge, and there it was, a cracked cartridge, my daughter said, dont you remember mum you dropped the pen the other day, OMG how embarrasing, I remember now
I have put a new cartridge in and had a correction of 7 units. The meters are fine it was the cartridge, I did feel awful last night, but hopefully I have it sorted now. Thanks very much :) RRB

Hope You OK RRB...XXX

Why did I think that you had gone on to a pump? :?

I have been given an expert meter, very good to start with with a few too many hypos. Then changed ratios but think by too much and having higher readings now going to see if can alter by a littl bit to try to sort. Trying 1st today with original settings to see what I get then will probably change for tyommorow.

Hope your settles down and that your dad is ok

Thanks lucy. me too lucy my readings are higher because diabetes nurse has advised to stay within 6 and 12 to stop the eratic BS and veru low hypos, but not counting yesterdays. I may have mentioned a pump because my new diabetes doc said that he thinks a pump would help me out, I see him again in November. Good luck for today, would you let us know how you get on. Type 1 is so complicated sometimes :( Take care with good wishes RRB X

So glad you found the problem. Do keep in mind that the stress of your father being in hospital will be impacting on your diabetes control also, might be a good idea to test more than usual over the coming days and correct where necessary, hope he makes a full recovery! :)
