Hi everyone
I was diagnosed diabetic type II 13 years ago. Like most people on here, my doctor also said that as long as my bs levels were keep under 10 that would be fine. I started on diet only then eventually I was put on metformin - then gliclazide. Currently I am on 4 x metformin (total 2000mg) and 4 x gliclazide (total320mg) per day.
Most of last year I didn't take care of my 'diet', eating anything and everything that I wanted (I had had an episode of anxiety with panic attacks and depression which I am still trying to get sorted with self help books and tapes). Earlier this year after receiving a third hb1ac test result with a reading of 10 my doctor said that before he puts me on insulin he wanted me to try Actos - pioglitazone. After being told (and also reading) about possible side effects of these tablets I knew then that I had to lower my bs myself without these tabs - I certainly didn't need anything else to worry about
I started eating healthy foods reducing my calorie intake - but to no avail. Even a high fibre diet wasn't helping with my bs although I was losing weight. THEN I came across your forums - I started low carbing and low and behold my bs levels have come down nicely (a few probs here and there but I think I'm winning!). I can't wait now until my next full blood test even if it's to prove I didn't need the Actos! .
Thank you so very much for all the information. I really don't know where I would be without you.
