Hello everyone iam 41 years , 15stones and diabetic since 1 year .
I did not take my diagnosis serious at first but now am starting to feel the impact of not taking the oral medecine properly or taking care if my diet . Yesterday I went hospital as I had pain on my left arm and around my chest and pounding head aches
Though the dr said it's not a heart attack, but it made me value life and I really want to do something ..I really want to control this or even completely get rid of diabetes if possible .

Please can someone kindly advise where do I start
With excersise ?
And diet and what to eat .

Iam of indian Asian origin and my diet is normally hot spicy foods , I eat chicken and no meat fish or eggs.

Many thanks for your kind help

Mih

Hi, Welcome

Well done for making the decision to turn things around

Do your test your own blood glucose with a finger prick meter? thats an awesome place to start, that way you will know that what you are eating is doing what it should and modify your diet accordingly

cutting down drastically on your carbohydrates is a great place to start, bread, potatoes, rice and pasta and the bad guys, don't worry about fat as this does very little to your sugar levels so just think carbs, lots of salads and veggies, not eating red meats will limit you a little but chicken is awesome along with oily fish (yuk for me) have a read of the forum you will pick up lots of info, if you have any questions please go ahead and ask, we don't bite

as for exercise, just do some, dosent matter what, just more than you do now, whatever that means, it makes a huge difference to everything

best of luck

edit: spices are fine

Hi and welcome. Just follow the advice of the other posters and keep the carbs down and get hold of a meter. Exercise is an added bonus but diet is the key.

Hello and welcome. Well done for trying to change things and good luck. A good balance of a changed diet, exercise and a positive outlook ( but take things slowly at first with little steps) and I'm sure you will succeed and you will feel the benefits very soon. Take good care.

I wanted to ask , last year my dr suggested 2 gliiclazide diabeties sugar tablets .
Since last 2 weeks I have started taking 2 tablets in the morning and 2 at night and I have headaches.
Are these tablets the correct ones or must I reduce the amount of tablets .
The pain is normally in my top left and right of my head.
Or am I missing vital vitamins

Thanks

im no expert but you must test when taking those tablets to make sure your headaches are not sympton of low blood sugar

Hello, welcome from me...
I cook with a lot of spices , I am veggie so spices and vegetables work well for me , I do have a very small portion of rice now and again , but I mean small .....
I do exercise , and aim for a balanced diet ....
Let us know how you are doing .....best wishes ....Kat

I'll try again, I misread your post, I don't know about gliclazide, ring your Dr or nurse, but I assume it has a build up period like metformin
