I know how hard it is.... I started walking not far at first but as I got used to it I went further and walk aroudn 5 to 6 miles per day now with the dogs depending on the weather...I also watched what I ate to try keep the levels down ....must admit it has taken me three years to get off the excess weight but well worth it so keep trying and try find a buddy who will walk with you ..I did not apparantly I walk too fast for them grrrr

G'day @ally1 and @Lanbert1088 cutting down on carbs only works if you cut back below your personal tolerance level.

To get a baseline remove all major carbs from your diet then try adding some carbs and when you go over you tolerance limit your BS will go quite high.
When you have established your tolerance limit then stay under it. When your weight drops your tolerance limit will rise so you can eat more carbs.

Major carbs are
all types of sugars and limit fruit definitely no grapes or dried fruit
anything related to cereal or grains
no potato or sweet potato.

You will reduce your need for medication and lose weight - I lost 15KG and got off insulin onto tablets

Hi and welcome. Yes, reduce the carbs to a level that your meter and HBa1C says is OK. This varies from person to person but try, perhaps, to set a daily limit of 150gm and he how it goes from there. Perhaps you can give us some idea of typical meals and we may be able to suggest changes?

Hi and welcome

I reduced my carbs and by doing so reduced my calories. I lost 3stones 5lbs to reach my target weight and am now maintaining. No breakfast cereals, no rice, pasta, pastry or sugary foods, little fruit, little milk. Still had some bread and some potatoes. I did this gradually, starting at 126g carbs a day, reducing each month down to 62g. Now currently averaging 64g.

Hi and welcoem to the forums

I'm pre-diabetic, so on a quest to sort myself out before it's too late. I have a lot of weight to lose (like 10 stone yet to go) but I'm doing it in baby steps. I was swimming 3 times a week for 30 mins and built it up to 5 times a week for an hour. I also started reducing my carb intake by starting out with about 150g a day and lowering it by about 20g/day each week so I'm now on about 60-80g a day. The weight is dropping off and I feel much fitter with my new LCHF diet.

The LCHF route isn't for everyone, but it's working for me and in any case I would have had to reduce the carb intake at least to some degree anyway...but with the added fat my food tastes better now than it has in years.
