hi there
just do your best. check blood sugars regularly. A very good course to go on is a DAFNE course. well worth going on. I learnt a lot when I did it 2yrs ago and I have been type 1 for 50yrs.

Hey @billybrown88
welcome to the forum
being new to type 1 is a heck of a lot to take in , so getting your numbers under control is really important.

But........... so is living , so my advice is to just try to live and enjoy yourself ( with a tiny bit of you reserved for an eye on the long term future )

we have a great community here on the forum so do keep posting

all the best !!

Hi Billy and welcome to the forum. I think regardless of our condition we have to live life for today and not worry about the future, worrying about something that may or may not happen its wasted energy. Being an expert and managing the day to day is essential for long term health

Hi there Billy,

Welcome to the forum. You said that you have your sugar levels under control. This is excellent as you have got off to a fantastic start. It can take a lot of us a long time yo come to terms with a chronic illness but it seems you have taken everything on board and got on with things positively.

We will normally only get long term complications if we have long periods where sugar levels are high. I have been Type 1 for 34 years and although I do have some complications I still live a full and active life. My diabetes is part of me and not the other way around.

There are Type 1's on here that have had the illness for 40 and 50 odd years and have very few if no complications whatsoever.

Keep doing what you are doing and keep everything in the day. No point in worrying about what you should have done yesterday or what you need to do tomorrow. Concentrate on now and keep positive and make sure you learn by your own experiences. Experience is priceless living with this illness. Aim to know more about your diabetes than your consultant and your'll do ok !

And above all don't carry it around with you like a ball and chain. Live and enjoy your life. Having diabetes is not a death sentence. Keep to the basics. Watch what you eat, Keep physically active and take your medication. Thats keeping it simple but it has worked for me !
