I go to bed with a reading of 5.9 (2 hours after eating) and upon waking have a reading of 6.5 -7.0 After explaining this to a diabetic nurse at health centre she could not expalin. I do not take insulin or any other drugs to control Diabetes. I was diagnosed in March 2018 and decided to do the 800 calorie a day diet, and lost 12.7 KG in 8 weeks I now weigh 90 KG. In my retest in June i was reading as pre-diabetic with a HbA1c of 42 down from 67. I plan to loose another 6KG in October this year with a month of 800 calorie a day. Do you think this will help?
I have been regulary exercising for the last 6 years ( and most of my adult life) squash once a week and 1 or 2 Gym sessions and some occasional running/cycling.
Question is can anyone explain why this is happening?
A high BG in the morning is very common.
This due to something called Dawn Phenomenon or Liver Dump.
Our bodies release glucose at the start of the day to give us energy to face whatever the day is going to throw at us.
Without diabetes, our bodies would release insulin to work with this extra glucose.
With diabetes .... it is common to see a rise at the start of the day.
Take a look around the forum for other discussions about " Dawn Phenomenon". You will find a lot.

I notice that your HbA1c dropped with your weight loss, was it just the weight loss that triggerd this or were other measures taken?

I agree with all the above.
It is a normal bodily action that happens to us all, whether diabetic or not.
Your nurse should know about this. I am very surprised she doesn't.
It happens to me too (although my morning numbers are a bit wilder than yours) - and keeps going up in the morning until I eat something. I think some people on this forum have various eating something before bed strategies to curb the rise.
Is 6.5 - 7.00 a healthy reading? normally I do not eat anything until 12- 1:00 pm the following day. 7 seems a little high, being as I have not eaten for 16 hours!
