I want to put this question out there, perhaps there are some who have had and successfully dealt with this sinario.
I've had type 1 diabetes for 2 years following a severe episode of necrotising pancreatitis. It's taken a long time for me to adjust but I'm finally getting on top of the management. I takeToujeo once a day (currently mornings) and NovoRapid at meal times. My BG during the day is good rarley rising above 6 or 7 I typically go to bed with BG of around 8. Every morning without fail I wake with BG readings of between 10 to 14 and need a relatively high dose to bring it down by lunchtime. I have recorded BG readings early hours of the morning for a week and can see that my BG levels steadily rise 1 or 2 units between bedtime and 3.00am and are then 10-14 when I awake. I have read about both the "dawn phenomenon" and "Simonyi Effect". I tend to think it could be DP but need to know If anyone thinks if splitting my 24 hour Toujeo between morning and bedtime would help. The thing is I'm aware that Toujeo is meant to last 24hours and not sure if it should be split. Any advice or shared experience would be most appreciated.
Kind Regards

I don’t know about Toujeo but used to use Lantus which is another 24 hour long acting insulin.
I know this could be split into two.
However, I adopted a different approach - I changed the time of my daily injection to ensure the Lantus was level when I went to bed (the profile rose over the first hour or so and the started to drift down towards the end of the 24 hours). In addition, I took enough Lantus to cause my BG to drop overnight (during the day, I snack which covers the extra basal in my system) and would go to bed with a BG of around 8. This resulted in a waking BG of around 5.

The other option, which I have now, is a pump where I can adjust the basal for different times of the day.
