High BG readings

Help! Was diagnosed with type 2 in October last.
Was given Metformin & told to watch my diet but not advised to test my BG. I have since been given a glucose meter by a friend & have recently started testing it. On waking my level is around 16 & drops to 12.5 before evening dinner. Am concerned that it is so high even in the evenings?
Could it be the meter is faulty? Or am I doing something wrong?

I know metformin takes some time to work but should be working better than those levels by now. You should make an appointment to see your doc with a copy of your readings and also point out that without your meter you would not now you were having these high levels. Hopefully you could get some strips on prescription which some type 2s do get.

Hi Kathy, what are you eating? The best advice is to reduce carbs i.e. pasta, white bread, rice, veggies that grow below the ground (too much starch). Test 2 hours after eating then you will know whats making your BS high.
Early morning highs are not unusual (Dawn Phenomenon).

am eating mainly a mediterranean diet. I live in Greece & use olive oil. Breakfast I usually have toast made from 8 seed brown bread. Lunch usually vegetable soup or similar. Dinner chicken or fish, spaghetti bolognese, stir fries. Maybe should eat low carbs? Am also on statins as I had heart attack 6 years ago.
