High Blood Glucose Readings

Hi Fellow Members, 07/04/2012

I have joined this forum today and look forward to gaining information on my blood glucose levels.

I did about 2 hours of fairly intensive exercise and then had a hearty breakfast of a mixture of meusli and fruit and bran cereal and a slice of white bread. I tested my blood sugar after about 2 hours and came up with a reading of 9.6. I then tested it again after 15 minutes and this time I had a reading of 8.6. I have yet to test my fasting blood sugar, which I will do tomorrow morning. Does any one have a similar experience. I do not have much info on the effect fairly intense exercise has on blood sugar levels, however, some web sites state that glucose is released form the liver during exercise and one may temporarily have higher levels on account of this release.

Any comments by any member will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello Zeke

Welcome to the board :)

I like to do cardio workouts and was dismayed to find that my sugar levels rose after exercise. I do my exercise 45 minutes - one hour after eating and usually exercise for about an hour.

Phoenix posted this great link about exercise and sugar levels.

I'm still doing cardiac workouts, but not pushing my heart rate up as high as before and I'm also doing more aerobic exercise as well and I'm happier with my readings.

Hi Didie,

Thank you very much for your reply and for pointing me to the runsweet web site. I do about one and a half hours on my cross trainer and then some floor exercises 4 to 5 times a week. I think that probably pushed up my readings. Today, I decided not to go on my cross trainer and my reading has fallen to 7.6 - still too high for comfort.

Anyway thanks for your input. Take care.
