High blood sugar after COVID infection

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has had higher blood sugar readings after a COVID infection. I had COVID for 2 weeks in December and my fasting sugar went up to ~10. I was not too worried as I know illness will send it up but I have been testing negative now for 3 weeks and it hasn't come down. I am following the same diet, etc as before COVID so wondered if the infection aftermath could still be causing problems. Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, how long did it take to get your sugar back down. Going to the GP is a non-starter as it's not bad enough for them to do anything other than the standard 'diet and exercise' mantra.
Thanks for your help
Cheers,
bon

I don’t know if I’ve had covid or just that diabetes is a dynamic disease but after several years my glucose levels are up. Not as high as yours but I’ve been experiencing painful conditions associated with high blood sugars I. I wrote to my doc asking to try metformin. This was a long considered thought through request. It took 2 weeks to hear back. I explained my situation and have been taking metformin for close to 4 months now.
I find it helps. - took a bit of getting used to . , lots of horror stories but I took it slow and alls well.

My point in all this is it’s your life - if you want to see if it helps reach out to your doc and tell them you’d like to try.

Best thoughts in all events

I had Covid in October 2022 and was diagnosed as pre-diabetic a few weeks later. It could be a coincidence but it is interesting.

I’m the same. Had it mid March but it’s not going down. Was told by my GP to ‘try’ and get my hba1c back down from 8.4 to my usual 7.1. Obviously I walked out thinking what did she assume I was doing? Unless she thought I was ‘cheating.’ Sorry, ‘70’s diabetic clinic throwback for those of you old enough to remember that unpleasantness x

Mine took quite a few weeks to return to normal after covid, but then so did many other physical things too. But it all sorted itself out in the end.
