High blood sugar after exercise while on Lantus Insulin

Dear all,
One month ago, I changed from 2 shots per day of Humulin 70/30 to 1 shot of Lantus Insulin per day taken with Galvus Met 50mg/1000mg (50mg Vildagliptin/1000mg Metformin HCL). Since then, after every morning exercise (light jugging for 2km), my blood sugar level rises instead of dropping. This never happened when I was taking Humulin 70/30. Is there anything I can do or take to stop this rising of blood sugar after exercise while on Lantus insulin?

Blood sugar rising when jogging can be quite common and is a bit of a pain.

Exercise like jogging can cause the body to reduce glucagon which can raise blood sugar significantly.

If it always sends your blood sugar high, you could inject some rapid acting insulin to counteract the expected rise but only do this if you're really confident doing this and make sure you glucose sweets with you on the jog in case you go low.

It's a shame we don't have an on/off switch to stop ourselves releasing glucagon at times like these.
