has taken insulin how long does it take to work.

It's difficult to understand your question "how long does it take to work?". Quick acting insulin (Novorapid and Humolog) will act quite quickly to bring the sugar levels down. If you mean how long will it take for your husband to learn to control his sugar levels, then that does require some practice.

The most important thing you can do at the beginning is be careful that he doesn't take too much insulin - as this is dangerous

Although Novorapid will work in about 15 mins I believe, learning what doses to take can be a process of trial and error it may take a few weeks for him to learn how to take insulin/match it to his food intake but once he is receiving some medical treatment his levels should come down lower than what they are now, which as you are aware is pretty hihg, and then it is just a process of fine tuning and learning the ins and outs of his medication routine.

A book I can recommend is 'think like a pancreas'. I'm presuming your husband will be on a basal /bolus routine (base dosage of insulin to last all day with meal dosages to match to his food intake) so forgive me if this is not the case.

We cannot answer your question unless we know what type of insulin he has taken. I hope that he is taking his insulin under the guidance of a diabetic consultant. In all likelihood they will bring his blood sugars down slowly so don't be alarmed if he runs higher than normal readings for a while.
