High Blood Sugar & Paradigm Pump (Long Wires)

Hi All,

I've recently had a delivery of paradigm silhouettes with the long tubing (110cm). I used to get the shorter wires. Since getting the longer wires I am having much higher blood sugars, with them taking alot more to come down.

This could be a coincidence obviously but I wondered if anyone has had trouble with these wires in the past?

FYI my pump is the Paradigm 722. :)

Thanks in advance

Amended above. I did mean tubing not wires

I have also just checked and it is the Paradigm Silhouette sets I have. Are there known problems with these ones?

There WAS a study recently which measured accuracy of delivery against different tubing lengths, and also the position of pump relative to infusion site. It seems the delivery mechanism is not as accurate as we would expect or hope for. I will try to dig out the reference. Just another unwanted factor really... I use Silhouettes too but with 60cm tubing not 110cm, and have always used this length.

Another thought here, if you've changed the length of your tubing have you changed the prime for it?

I would check that they tubing isn't kinking anywhere, as you've got a lot more tubing to roll up (if this is the method used to round up the excess) other reasons for your problems could be down to just a change in basal needs, this could be linked to hormones, stress or even ill-ness so I would also rule these out as factors if you can..

The Study mentioned by Kegs was carried out by the manufacuters of Omipod which is a tubeless pump! Most pumpers see this study being a bit suspect with it's findings, as in reality there aren't that many pumpers that use a 110cm length tube set... Nor to they use the Tubing in an manner there stretches the tubing to hits fall length.. This is how the experiments were carried out to determin the effect!!! For myself this would mean that I would have to suspend the pump above my head by quite a distance, even the 60cm length that I use, if uncolied to it's full length would reach above my head!!!! The actual lose of insulin delivery in reality would mean that you would have to be very sensitive to insulin for it to have a realistic impact in control..
