High blood sugar readings

Hi guys, basically I was a bit of a plonker yesterday and left the house in quite a rush so forgot to pick up any needles so I went home and didn't eat anything. . Then I went to this meeting and had strawberries at the meeting. I got home tested my bloods and they were 21... but I had diarrhoea in the night. . Sorry to be embarrassing but I just wanted to know if it's normal to have diarrhoea when bloods are high....

Hi @sarapow20

I'm not sure - I guess it depends on whether you're BGs are otherwise (pretty) good.

It could also be that the strawberries helped to flush out the toxns that would have built up during the hyperglycaemia. Hopefully, someother member of the fairer sex will also be along with better knowledge / experience than this old critter.

P.s. If you forget your "needles" again, don't run the risk of another 21: find a local pharmacy, call your surgery and get your GP to send an electronic prescription over so that you can live. Failing that, buy some!

I do understand, I really do.

What about buyng a pack of disposble syringes in such circumstances? They can't be that expensive surely (I believe they still come in packs of ten.)

Also, go back to your GP and order a spare set for your work and keep them there in an authorised place; there shouldn't be any issue with that, and as for keeping them at work, your employer is LEGALLY bound to make "reasonable adjustments" at your workplace (Equality Act 2010).

Never had diarrhoea as a result of high bg, but I suppose everyone is different and it's not to say it can't happen, however my guess is the strawberries were to blame as you ate them on an empty stomach.
