Hi. Does anyone know where the weight you lose when your blood sugar is high comes from? Water, fat? Thanks!

do you mean T1 and low insulin? , ,,,you are losing water trying to flush the sugar..and you are eating yourself, both muscle and fat to ketone for the body to run on, without insulin, when it gets high enough you go into a coma and can be fatal DKA

if you want to lose weight, it can be done safely with diatry ketones with a ketogenic diet, there is no need getting sick, there are a few T1 doing low carb, burning dietry fat and body fat ketones, with a very low bolus and good stable BG

http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf it’s a long page and a video

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarbliving/a/Food-Cravings.htm For me, the more carbs we eat the more carbs we want. they don’t give up easy.

Hi. Thanks for the answer. I'm just curious, not trying to lose weight, but I have been and my sugar has been elevated. I like to know how things work and I'm the curious type. An educated patient is a good patient. Thanks again!!

@jer500 confused till I looked at your profile, you're T2, you need to see the Dr you may be a late onset T1, you also need to check for blood ketones at the surgery, urine strips wont show if you have been losing weight for a while
high sugar and losing weight without trying sounds like your pancreas isn't producing enough insulin

how high are you, if you feel nauseous or have cramps go to A&E

I have a profile? I don't think I do. I am just asking a biological question of 'why'. My blood sugar is back to normal after adjusting a few things. I am just curious. Thanks for your responses.

If you're referring to the simple questions I answered to become a member, I don't think the info I gave has enough info for you to make the assumptions you made about my current health.

if your blood sugar is high and you are losing weight this may be you are burning fat because your cells are unable to process the glucose in your system. This can be a dangerous state and you should get yourself checked out. That is of course assuming that you hadnt just had a load of glucose from some form or another shortly before testing (within 3 hours say)

Thank you for replying to my question. I know EXACTLY why my sugar has been high. Most likely from eating things I'm not supposed to for about a week. Just wanted to know what was going on inside my body. Couldn't seem to find any anwers online. Thanks again.
