are you newly diagnosed ?

are you taking insulin ?

i would get to an A&E on a 38.4 or at least ring 111 for advice-- you will be having ketones as well which are not good.

Well my meter can only read up to 36mmol/l and I feel fine when it says high, must be some sort of resistance.

If insulin isn't bring you into range might be a good idea to call your emergency line and get a option for what you should do
