High blood sugars and Viruses (Type 2)

I have recently had Flu which "knocked me for six!" I am better but still trying to get over the cough and "lack of voice".
My blood sugars were ok after a year of battling to get them down with meds and and a low carb diet. I have only had Diabetes for just over two years but now I am back to high blood sugars (15 in the morning before I eat!!) This is since contracting the flu virus three weeks ago. Before this my morning sugars were 7-8.
My Diabetic team are now pushing for me to go on insulin as it is now looking like my blood sugar will not come down to my pre flu values. Is this the right way to go? I have worked so hard and lost over four stones in weight to boot.
I have previously asked for the GAD test to be screened for LADA and been refused. Should I be pushing for this again?
I really want to know why all my efforts have been unsuccessful but no-one seems to care only me.
