Hi, my names Abby I'm 21years old, I'm having trouble with trying to keep my blood sugars low, I'm taking insulin and gluophage tablets but nothing seems to work, I've been a type 1 for 9 years and I was wondering wheather anyone had any suggestions if the insulin pump would be any good?
Thanks in advance xx
The insulin pump will still only deliver insulin, if that doesn't work now, the pump is not a magic fix. Can you give us any idea of your diet ? Maybe your ratio's need adjusting, do you carb count ?
I do carb count I'm on a ratio of 1 unit to 5 carbs, I'll have cereal for breakfast, sandwich for lunch then cooked meal for dinner, atm I can't do any exercise as I'm being tested for heart problems so waiting for the result
OK, thanks. Do you test after each meal or before ? Are your levels high all the time or certain times ? Cereal for breakfast can be a reason, also, your sandwich for lunch ( bread ) may cause spikes. Apologies for all the questions but difficult to advise someone with nothing to go on lol !
You could try reducing the amount of carbs you eat & see the effect that has on your blood sugar results. Even if you just reduce then a bit some people find it has a positive impact.
It might be worth looking in the low carb forum for ideas of things you could have instead of bread and cereal. I know some low carbers still eat bread but they have found some bread doesn't cause as many spikes in their sugar levels . Afraid I can't tell you which bread or cereals would be best as I don't eat them .
Have you checked your basal rates? Just wondering as if you're high most of he time it might suggest that this needs increasing.
