Hi all, I have been diagnosed type 2 for the past 3 years but have only started to test my BS in past three weeks after a bit of a fight with DN!! I have purchased a codefree meter and notice that my BS in morning is always around 9 however during the day its around 6/7, sometimes down to 5. I have started to eat a low carb high fat diet and am trying fasting from 8pm - 12noon every day. My weight has started to come off which is great however I cannot get that morning BS down. I tried having a mini babybel cheese before bed last night (10pm) but that didn't help. Any comments / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It can take several weeks for a LCHF diet to drive the fasting BG down. What are the foods you eat in a typical day?

HI Catlady, 1st thing I have been having to eat is at around 12.30pm and usually consists of a ham and cheddar cheese salad with lettuce, tomatoes, pickled onions, pickled beetroot and full fat shop bought coleslaw, then main evening meal around 7pm of roast chicken & broccoli, cabbage, carrots or red peppers stuffed with chilli chickeni and maybe some mini babybel cheese as a snack. I take 2 x 500mg metformin twice daily usually at lunch and evening meal. Also take 1 x 16mg Candesartan for high blood pressure. I have recently changed from a TRUE YOU meter to the SD codefree meter as the strips are so much less expensive. Can there be a big difference in readings?
Thanks

Oh forgot to mention that I drink decaf green tea and water during the day and 1 or 2 Nescafe powdered skinny cappuccinos to stave off hunger at 10am ish:)

Your food intake looks good, so I don't think the problem is in that area. There might be a few carbs in the cappucinos from the milk powder, but not much. The meters could be different - are you able to take a reading from each one at the same time and compare?

I have just read that we should be taking first bloods upon waking ie before shower etc, I have been waiting till I am ready to go out the door to work which is usually about 2 hrs after getting up - will try that tomorrow morning. I don't have any of the testing strips left for other meter but I have an appt with DN a week on Friday, I might chance my arm and ask for some more (its like getting blood from a stone - pardon the pun lol) :)
