I am type 2 diabetic and have been following a low carb diet which has bought my hba1c and bs down. I have now found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant and my blood sugers are in double figures, after breakfast this morning of lizzie granols it was 11.4mmol!!!!!

Help!!! my gp has been no help.

Call your local hospital, and ask to speak to the diabetes team...and get them to put you intouch with the "diabetes midwife...or googl your local hospitals maternity unit..and see what the website says.

Either way, you need to get your sugars down as soon as possible. Pregnanacy plays havoc with your hormones..including diabetes.

i am T1, and have 2 children quite recently. I remember going to clinic and being surprised how busy it was, and the staff told me, that many of teh patients were type 2...don't assume all type 2s are older people! I have been on this forum long enough to know that isn't the case...but it was nice to see that they were leping these ladies too.

be prepared for your diabetes to change throughout pregnancy.

I called the diabetes centre and explained all they told me to check my bm's keep a diary and am going to visit them on tuesday, they were horrified to hear that my gp would not give me the higher dose of folic acid evan though I questioned it with her. The diabetic consultant had to fax a letter to the gp for her to change it over picking the prescription up today (thankgod I have been taking 12 400mcg tabs to make it up lol)
The diabetic specialist nurse has also said that I can have all the strips I want :) .
Blood sugers have been between 7.0mmol - 12.mmol still a little worried don't know how am going to make it till tuesday...........trying very hard to not freak out with worry.
