Hi, I started on Byetta last Thursday evening since then my bs is around 14 the lowest it's got is down to 9. Does this medication take a while to start working?

Yes, it can take around 3 weeks for Byetta to kick in and make a difference to your BS. I assume you're on 5mcg twice a day?

I started Byetta on April 22nd and moved up to 10mcg twice a day last week. I've seen a gradual decrease in my BS (measuring morning and evening before meals) but the last week has seen an slight increase in my daily average.

Thank you for replying. I have rung my DSN this morning as I was worried she said it fine but if they get up to the 20's to ring them straight away. Yes I just started on the 5cmg. I'm really hoping this works for me.

Believe me, I wish I'd started Byetta a few months ago. I'm losing weight, my appetite is reduced, by BS is going down. Only had one day of vomiting on day two.

I keep a seven day moving average on my morning and evening readings and it's gone down from 15.9 to 10.7 in the five weeks since I started.

Best wishes

Ive been on insulin for a long time and have gained a lot of weight and was always hungry. The hunger has gone which is such a good feeling and I've even lost 3lbs since Thursday. So now hoping the bs's will come down. That's good that yours have come down, what medication were you on before?

I've been on Metformin, Gliclazide and Sitagliptin for about eight years now. So Byetta is an additional medication rather than a replacement. My consultant wants to keep me off insulin for as long as possible
