High fasting blood sugar

I've been water fasting for 4 days, between a carnivore diet of 3 months, but my blood sugar is still 6, or 7 during the day.
I cant lower it.
I've had to stop Metformin as it gave me diarrhoea, heart palpitations.
I am 72, active and about 7 kg over my ideal weight.
Is this high level due to glucosnegenisis, and coming out my liver?

Thanks for the tag @lovinglife

I’d say it’s more likely the latter. Liver trying to be ‘helpful’.

I’d also wager that if you’re finger pricking rather than using a Libre or similar, you may not be seeing any periods where your numbers go lower.

In my experience my numbers fluctuate throughout the day when I’m fasting and if my body thinks it’s dropped too low, the liver ‘helpfully’ raises them again.

It might be that you’d see different results with shorter fasts or depending on how high you were running and for how long before going carnivore, this could just be a temporary ‘set point’ that will lower over time.

And if it’s just the ‘fasting’ reading you’re taking, theres an interesting Diet Doctor article that explains it which I’ll dig out and link when I’m on something more functional than a phone.

@Fuggs here’s the article I mentioned: https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/fasting-blood-glucose-higher

Many thanks for that reply, it is concerning as I thought having fasted for a few days, my blood glucose level would be low. of course my ulterior motive is to reduce my insulin levels but if my liver is producing glucose, then possibly my insulin levels will be low and that will help reversing insulin resistance. I'm not sure if the lodger works that way

Definitely, and the fasting will also help with that.

@bulkbiker is much more of an expert than me when it comes to longer fasts - I’ve never been beyond 48 hours, so hopefully he’ll chime in too.

Well I broke my 4-day water fast this morning with an egg and tomato omelette, I can't tell you how gorgeous that tasted. I still feel absolutely knackered, huge tiredness and lethargy, but the good news is I dropped another 2 kg so that has taken me from 91 kg down to 78 with with another five for target.
I have just got over a bad UTI where my CRP was 97, I really hope that's not indicative of Cancer or something, but 5 Days of antibiotics sorted that out, but trashed my gut Flora, so I think I'll do another two or three day fast tomorrow having re fed today. I so want to get down to 73kg, I'm sure that will pay dividends. Oh and have kicked the booze as well.
