Hi I recently had gestational diabetes. My son is now nearly 6 months old and I am due for an HBA1c. Before I was pregnant inhad one with a result of 40 and a previous year it was 39 so the top end of ‘normal’. Levels were pretty bad when pregnant.
Recently I have been testing levels to see how they are again. Fasting is around 5.6-6.2 (which I think is a prediabetic level), before meals around 5.3 and after a low carb meal they don’t rise much and normally at 2 hours are about 5.9/6. But because I’ve been pretty healthy I haven’t had much sugar recently but yesterday I had pancakes made with oats, bananas chocolate sauce etc and 2 hours later they were 8.2 and tested again and was 8.9About 20 mins later I checked again and they were back down to 5. Did they spike and crash? I clearly can’t tolerate too much carbs/ sugar. I’m pretty sure I have an insulin resistance. I need to lose about 5 stone and determined to do it.
I’d like to know after having a carb or sugar heavy meal though is it normal for them to return to normal after about 3 hours and if I had diabetes what would they be like later in the day. For example when I was pregnant they would rise if I ate the wrong food, drop suddenly but then rise again a couple of hours later and stay high for ages and ages but now they go straight back to a good fasting level throughout the rest of the day, I know I won’t know for sure until I have my hba1c but I want to know what the chances of having diabetes are with the levels I have had.
Thanks in advance if any of this makes sense....
