Hi there, Had my Metformin increased before christmas to 1x 500 morning, 1 x 5o0 Lunch and 2 x 500 evening. The evening one was the increase. Was great, morning readings around 5/6 after breakfast still 5/6 lunch the same and same in the evening. Thought finially cracked it, then Christmas. Been all over the show up and down no order at all. The only difference is that not been exercising as much and getting up a bit later? But been feeling unwell hence the lack of exercise but nothing def just feeling sick and headache. So this morning i checked and before breakfast 10.1. After breakfast 13.9. Then ran round the block 15 mins later was 7.9. Then went out and did some more walking came home had a cup of coffee and was up to 9.8. Nothing else to eat in between. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. As i have no idea what is going. Not eating any differently. Yet to see pre lunch results.

Just tested and now 11.2. Not eaten since 9 and only 1 cup of coffee in between. Something is really strange going on.

Hi smoss9

Sometimes blood sugar levels can rise in advance of symptoms of a cold or infection. In my personal experience, I've sometimes had blood sugar levels rise without developing symptoms. Was it a cold or infection that my body adequately dealt with? That's been my best guess.

In your case, I'd be looking to get back into the swing of regular exercise.

I'm a type 1 but know that exercise is effective at bringing sugar levels down. When I've had a cold and insulin seems to make no impact on bringing my sugar levels down, I'll think to myself "stuff this" and go for a good walk until the levels do come down -and this seems to be very effective. 30 minutes walk and I can drop down 4 mmol/l sometimes.

The longer you walk, the more you'll use up the glucose stored by your muscles. You may not notice a reduction in sugar levels right away but at some point, your muscles will need to refuel and they'll take glucose from the blood -therefore finally helping to reduce your sugar levels.

Bear with the higher sugar levels for a bit, keep your activity levels up and I'd like to think those levels should start to come back down.

Thankyou, that sounds like really good advice. Just feel so rubbish when high when not eating or anything. Just tested again before lunch and down to 4. So having a light bite and leave the testing for 2 hours and see what happens. Feel tired now with all the ups and downs. Hard game this.
