High levels :(

Hi All,

I need a little bit of advise. I have been diagnosed with type 1 back in 2011, since then I had no problem with managing my diabetes and my sugar reading are generally very good. However, for the past two weeks my readings are very high. I haven't change anything in terms of diet, I have no other health problems. I am not sure what is going ;( I am very concerned. I am doing corrections when sugar levels are high.

I have been trying to change my Levimir usage, but if I am adding 1 unit more I am going hypo. (I am taking 14 units at night, if I take 15 I have hypos in the morning). Over past 2 weeks all my before breakfast readings are too high :( between 8-10. Before was always between 5-6.5 :(

I have started fresh pens for both, Novorapid and Levimir, as I thought that maybe pens were faulty :( But still no change and high readings.

If you could please point me out in the right direction and let me know what should I do?

Thank you!!!

Looks like you may need to split-dose your levemir to give you a better coverage, failing that ask to change to an alternative basal insulin such as lantus or Trisiba.

Trisiba just came on the market last year and lasts up tp 42 hours, although it is still injected once a day, by all accounts it's a very good basal and there's a couple of members on the forum who are using it with great success.

I was having the same problem. I tried to split my dose but it didn't really help as I couldn't find a good split. Like you 1 unit increase sends me hypo so I can't really split without having periods where I have too much and too little levemir. As noblehead suggests there are other basal insulins such as tresiba.
I'm going to see DSN on Thursday to discuss swapping.
